Yellow really makes me happy! When the kids left I picked up my fattest palette knife and just went crazy with this new piece.

It’s happening more or more these days that the title of a piece comes to me in the middle of painting it. I think it helps complete the work or bring it to where it should go. Photo is from a trip with two of my dearest friends some years back…and even if one of them is not in the picture (he took it), he still is very much part of this poignant moment of friendship.

Retiring it for the day. Excited to pick it up again with fresh eyes tomorrow. ????

Started this with the intention of sticking to the Dutch palette of browns, reds, yellows and black. I even put my Rembrandt drawing next to it for inspiration…but what kept showing up were blues, greens and grays. I realize I’m still wishywashy when it comes to shadows and darks! Got to work on allowing the darkness to come and set in, in order to bring out the light. Will be interesting to see how this turns out. ????

Happy with the progress on my Jesus painting today. Been frustrated with the flatness I was getting, so I decided to bring out my oil paints to lend body and softness to the work. It’s slowly getting there… Extra pressure to get the face right, especially since the Divine Mercy devotion is all about the gaze of Jesus.

I’m 99% done with my commissioned Jesus painting! Yay. Father Romy will be happy!

Was staring at these feet the whole afternoon. Had to dismount and roll up the canvas and work on a table to get a good position to do these letters. Didn’t realize that canvas would be so heavy with paint! Happy to be almost done with this work. Trusting it will all work out.

Saying my final goodbye to Jesus before this commissioned work gets picked up today. Literally a labor of love over 3 months– I redid his face 4 times just to get the gaze right! Hope it inspires devotees in the parish where it will be hung. Thanks for the trust, Msgr. Romy. #divinemercy #jesus #painting #artph
Not sure yet if this is done but I want to call it “Everything is in me”.

Finally started my Divine Mercy painting. It’s huge–38 x 50 inches! Commissioned by a priest who was the first stranger to knock on my studio door and ask if I would paint something for their church. Doing this with mindful devotion to draw in more good vibes for the studio and the work that I do. To more knocks on the door!

Got my first donation of tarpaulins today. Now all rolled up to ease any folds away…but wow look at that heap! 15 paintings waiting to happen. Thanks so much, Karina, and to your mom for the goodies!

Happy painters at lunch break 🙂 #wip #acrylic #painting
The talented Tita Clay with her palette knife painting debut. Such confident strokes befitting a confident woman. Was a joy to paint with you again after all these years, Tita! To more playtime for us.

Painting a new door sign for my studio (getting ready to open it up!) and this lilac came out. That blue from a #wip behind it is also very nice Might switch back to my default blues by the end of this…will see! Started painting to quiet the mind so don’t want to overthink this. Possibilities, possibilities!#playplayplay
