Overcast on Shimizu island

This was the first of 3 paintings I did while hopping on and off an outrigger boat in one of my most favorite places in the world: El Nido, Palawan. Was my first time to try painting all wet and sandy, wind blowing everywhere and with everyone from tourists, guides, boat crew, and occasional sand flies joining in the fun. Was trying to get a feel of how one of my idols–Van Gogh–embraced the elements while painting in outdoor France! Truly a feel-na-feel moment. Finished this in less than an hour. I can feel the rush of those strokes everytime I look at it–this is a painting with a ratatouille moment.
