Why Creativity?

Creativity takes courage. – Henri Matisse

I want my epitaph to read, “She was brave.”

I’ve lived my life with courage as a guiding force, and have found resounding allies in art and enterprise.

As someone who never toed the line of the corporate world, I find great inspiration from others who break the rules by blazing their own paths and deciding on every aspect of their lives based on what they hold dear.   Entrepreneurs for me are the doers; artists are the dreamers.  We have both energies inside of us.  To cultivate them is part and parcel of creative living.

Why Art?

Art when really understood is the province of every human being.  It is simply a question of doing things, anything, well.  (Robert Henri, 1923)

When I paint and doodle, I come from a place of clarity and dedication because creating asks the same question every single time: Who am I?

I define art in the same broad stroke that Robert Henri did: it is a matter of excellence, and reverence for the process. How do we nurture the artist in every Filipino is the same question as how do we build a culture of excellence in the PH?

The Art and Creativity Hub of Alaya.PH will gather creatives of all sorts and see what magic we can do together.

  • creative spaces
  • artists and art communities

For now, I’m moving things forward by building a creative community where I already am: in my art studio in Quezon City, Philippines, gathering friends and family, men, women, children, moms, dads, grandparents, yayas, helpers, employees, support staff.  Hopefully, over time, this circle will expand to reach out to existing springboard communities and groups that already have their own network of friends and family, and we get to start creativity propellers everywhere.

Do you have your own Creative Initiatives?  Let’s connect the dots and volt in!
