Nuvali Transport Terminal trip schedule (October 2012)

Life in Nuvali Philippines

I was very frustrated a few weeks ago when I visited the Nuvali Terminal to board the 8 or 8:30am shuttle to Makati, and was told that the last shuttle for the day had already left at 7:30am.   I asked the guard if that day was an exception and pointed to the newly posted shuttle schedule, and he said usually there were only two trips every morning to Makati (as opposed to one every half hour from 6:30-9:00am).

I\’m sure there are others who were/continue to be equally frustrated, and I wish Nuvali management would be more considerate and responsible in posting signs.

I noticed early this week that the errant tarpaulin has been taken down.

Sharing the most recent \”sign\” I saw at the terminal for everyone\’s benefit:

Will try to get a clearer photo next time, but I hope the above already helps those who need to figure out a way in and out of Nuvali on a regular basis.   I haven\’t taken either of these transport vehicles (there are Nuvali vans and buses servicing the North-Central-South route), so would be glad for feedback from actual users.

A love interest

Uncategorized

39-Montalut - A-love-interest

A friend recently referred to dating as having a love interest, and it made me realize how clean that phrase is.

Love interest.

No pretenses, no ambiguous meaning or indirect association with which to confuse it.

It is clean cut.  It captures romance, not to trivialize it, but quite the opposite — to make it more explicit.

“I am seeking a love interest” is an honest intent, and whoever uses it, allows himself or herself to enter into a new relationship with precision and audacity.

And how refreshing that is.

We all want to be a little less lonely, but dating has become diluted, casual, and in a way, aimless.  We now go out, hang out, meet up for drinks.  Facebook and twitter have softened these romantic interactions all the more — adding someone as a friend or frequently commenting on updates can now be used (or misconstrued) as a show of interest.  We like safe terms, non-committal gestures that let us passively build up to a maybe, that we may or may not act on.  I find most cowardly the use of “friendship” to test the water for what was once a direct, well-intended social process: courtship.   That was an engaging romantic activity that had a definite goal: to get an answer, from both parties, whether it be a yes or a no.

We don’t like being definite these days.  Maybe that’s why it’s also become so difficult to commit to the answer (the yes or the no).  We like gray areas, and usually get into things with one foot out of the door.  Most of us are muddled even while we seek; we have a lot of peripherals.  I once dated a guy who made his intentions clear from day one (that it was a clear yes for him), and I cherished that.

A love interest is just that — a romance partner.  Someone to romance, to be giddy over, and vice-versa.  A crush who crushes you back and says so. It can deepen into love and a true partnership, but that’s another story.  And the yes (or no) that we get from courtship or dating is just a decision to pursue (or not) that other story.

Infinity and the perks of a barkada

31-Montalut - The people you carry with you

I saw a good movie the other day. It’s been a while since I smiled at the movie house. Celebrated friendship of a young, natural kind — the effortless, foundational friends we encounter earlier in life but carry with us forever.

Forever’s a cheesy word when we let it be one, but really, it’s beautiful.  They say nothing lasts forever, but we are here.  We witness the change, we flow.  We’ve flowed from day 1, from even before we started counting days, and will keep doing that.  And it’s a we, not an I.

Friendships change, we change, and it’s neither good nor bad.  When we come across people who can look at us and see this flow of forever in us and in them at the same time — wow, that’s a WOW.

That movie made it tangible for me again — that one line that struck me the first time I read it:  Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love.  By Elie Wiesel. And infinity — to touch it or feel it, or just witness it, be in the same space or moment as it, and to see faces of people next to you who are just as taken in  — these faces you will carry with you forever, and they you.

Go watch Perks of a Being a Wallflower.

It feels nice to be asked.

But sometimes, what we really need is to do the asking.

Internet in Nuvali – mobile vs. cable?

Everyday Life

\"Living

I\’ve been going online in Nuvali via Smart Mobile (I send \”Unli 50\” to 211 for 24-hour unlimited surfing), and although signal can get pretty good at times, there is still the inevitable lag or down time. I\’m curious if anyone can vouch for PLDT DSL in Nuvali?  What\’s the best speed you\’ve encountered and what plan did you get?

Nuvali Shuttle Service to Makati and vice-versa

Everyday Life

UPDATE as of Sept. 29, 2012:  We went to the Terminal to take the 8am shuttle last Thursday, and were very upset to be told that there were only two trips that day, and the last shuttle had left at 7:30am.  Nuvali management should be more responsible in posting schedules — this is not the first time they\’ve advertised shuttles only to let commuters down.

Spotted at the entrance of the Nuvali Terminal just last September 14, 2012.

24-Montalut - Presenting life as we know it

Heartbreak and joy. They are twins.

I grew up with twins. They have their own world — they connive, they plan and execute, or sometimes they plan to have no plan — the given is that they do everything together.

Whether you invite heartbreak or joy into your life, expect the other to come galloping by soon enough. They are what we Filipinos like to call “Buy one, take one.”

There is a pause button to the whole process, though. It happens when we become an outsider, an onlooker, and decide to stay out of the game.

We get a breather, either to sort through the mess, or refill the well.

But of course it’s not up to us to stay out.

Landing na.

03-Montalut - Centering

Now going on night #7 in my new home, after a grueling two-year wait, and it feels surreal that I’m actually able to sit down and properly write again. Amidst the workload I have to do (business-wise, house cleaning-wise, creative-wise), I insist on this critical me time tonight to essay out my thoughts.

After being consumed by what’s practical for so long (i.e. daily hardware visits, weekly payroll, unending construction issues, furniture shopping, etc.), it is soooo refreshing to doodle away and let myself go…

20-Montalut - Landing

Still very rusty with the writing knife though. I feel the hesitation and the urge to overdo…

But will sit through this until something comes out. Marathon post warning!

When we make time to distill what needs saying, a precious gift comes to us — a clear mind.  That’s the superfood of the psychic world, I think.  With a clear mind, anyone can be superman/woman.

Harvest time!

Farming and Gardening Food Sustainable Living,

GIANT Langka from our Tagaytay garden:

Don’t they just make you smile? 🙂

Harvested 3 huge ones just last week, and another one over the weekend.

When it came to cutting them open, didn\’t want to stain my fingers with the smell, so took a knife and fork and sliced away methodically.  Was surprisingly therapeutic, felt as if I was carving meat.

Also very happy to harvest so many bananas and papayas:

Great for breakfast smoothies.  They\’re all very delicious, and taste ever the sweetest because they\’re homegrown.

🙂

Will need to decide on what to plant in my Nuvali garden soon.  Space is small so need to plan properly.   Care to share what you\’ve planted in yours?

Canlubang side trip

Life in Nuvali Philippines

Took the Canlubang exit on the way back to Nuvali from Calamba a while back, and was happy to drive around to check out the area for the first time.

Chanced upon a new retail center, iMall:

\"Canlubang

\"Canlubang

A cousin who lives in the nearby Ceris 1 Village said the iMall had just opened at that time  (June 2012).  Around the corner was also a Robinson\’s Supermarket, and next to it a Shell gas station, similar to the Nuvali tandem.

Across was Don Bosco College, which had a new course offering that was a welcome surprise: Robotics!

\"Canlubang

\"Canlubang

Also spotted another Salesian school next to it, Mary Help of Christians:

\"Canlubang

(I\’ve now added them to the list of schools in and around Nuvali I started compiling last year).

From I-mall we took the road to Silangan exit, passing through the Silangan Industrial Park, turned towards Nuvali (we paid a \”toll fee\” of P15.00), and voila! We ended up in the rotonda right before Nuvali Central.

Interesting to note that in Nuvali South, at the end of East Diversity Avenue (the road fronting Venare, the Wakepark and Avida Village), there is a gate that is still closed for the time being, but I think it\’s safe to assume that it will lead to this general area in Canlubang.   What a great shortcut to Calamba from Nuvali that would be!
