What are the schools in and around Nuvali?

Everyday Life

So far, three schools have committed to set up shop inside Nuvali:  Xavier School, Everest Academy by the Legionnaires of Christ, and just recently, Miriam College.

Some days ago I saw a tweet about Poveda supposedly locating in Nuvali as well, and I excitedly turned to old classmates and teachers for confirmation.  No truth to it as far as they know, boo.  But  who knows, right? Anything can happen. 🙂

Another chismis I\’ve heard is that De La Salle University (DLSU) is looking to make the Canlubang site its main campus.  Got this from a parent who has a high schooler in St. Scholastica\’s Westgrove.  Anyone able to confirm this? Will also try to look into it.

As far as schools are concerned, here\’s a list of what\’s available in the Sta. Rosa-Canlubang area surrounding Nuvali (dark blue circles on the map):

Did I miss a school?  Who else do you want to see in Nuvali?

If you were  a parent, where would you send your kids to school in the Nuvali area?

Miriam College Nuvali – Official announcement

Everyday Life

My niece goes to Miriam for Grade 1 and she was the one who actually got so excited about seeing the Miriam College signs in Nuvali last week.  Here\’s the memo we got from President Rosario Lapus just a few days ago:

I am happy to announce that the Miriam College Board of Trustees recently approved the proposal to establish another Miriam College campus in a 15-hectare property in Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Summarizing the key points:

  • MC-Nuvali is slated to open in 2014 with Grades 1 and 2, and High School 1st and 2nd years
  • Higher education will begin on the 5th year
  • Development will proceed in stages, and will take 10 years
  • Campus site is 15 hectares in size
  • Green features:
    • 50% of the campus will be dedicated to open spaces
    • sensitive to existing terrain, climate and environment
    • use of sustainable energy sources
    • water use efficiency
    • waste management facilities

It\’s very encouraging that more institutions are putting their confidence in Nuvali.  In 5 years, who knows how this area will look like?

🙂

Miriam College is coming to Nuvali!

Everyday Life

Look at what I saw just this afternoon:
\"Miriam

There was some buzz on twitter last Thursday about Miriam College opening a Nuvali campus. No official word from Ayala or Miriam but what can be more official than directional sign posts!

The actual site for the school is in Nuvali South, to the right once you reach the end of Nuvali Boulevard (the Republic Wakepark is to the left). Will take more pics on my next visit.

But this is great news–an actual college inside Nuvali!  Miriam too is known for its Environmental programs– I would love to see what\’s on offer for masteral degrees.

Hello, Xavier Nuvali

Everyday Life,

\"\"
Image found via @JaysonNg

Some interesting points from the the Xavier Nuvali brochure:

  •  Xavier School Nuvali will have 25% of its students on scholarship.  Programs will be designed \”to enable the presence of these scholars to have a transforming influence on the culture of the school as a whole.\”
  • XS Nuvali will be a co-divisional school. The campus will accept both boys and girls, but they will be educated separately.
  • Focus on learning Chinese as a foreign language
  • Flexible curriculum provides various enrichment and remedial courses depending on the capacity and interest of each student
  • envisioned as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School
  • will adopt the Singapore method and curriculum in Science and Math, with a thrust on problem-solving and inquiry to promote critical thinking
  • envisioned to be a digital school, with proper IT infrastructure and equipment and 1-to-1 computer-based instruction
  • facilities (first phase): one school building and gym
  • future developments: buildings for Primary School, Middle School, and High School; library building, auditorium, administration building, provision for residences and dormitories

I don\’t have children to go school-hunting for (not yet!), but reading about these plans makes me want to be part of this promising community of teachers, parents and students at the heart of Nuvali. A school is a cornerstone in any neighborhood and I have high hopes for the energy that Xavier Nuvali will bring into the Nuvali community as a whole. As their brochure reads, \”The journey begins in 2012!\”

What can you still buy in Avida Settings Nuvali?

Everyday Life, ,

All 4 Phases are open already, and I won\’t be surprised if they sell out soon.

Here\’s a rundown on the different offerings and what\’s still available for sale:

Model Floor Area Price range Available Units
Thea 88sqm 4.1 – 4.9M 14
Maia 69sqm 3.1 – 4.6M 23
Celena 53sqm 2.4 – 4.2M 46
Lot only 102sqm – 203sqm 11,400 – 13,800/sqm 45

That\’s a remarkable take up, considering that a significant number of those who bought are actually living in Avida already. The total saleable units for ASNU were 825 houses and 838 lots.

In Avida Settings, buyers of bigger lots are given an option of which house model to build on their lot (for a 224 square meter lot, for example, you can build any of the three models).  The figures above represent all remaining options for anyone who\’s looking to buy now, so some lots were counted more than once.

I also plotted the remaining inventory on the map to get the big picture– let\’s look at each Phase in Avida Settings Nuvali in my next posts.

If you\’re looking to buy in Nuvali, now is the time, before everyone really starts coming in (and bringing the prices up with them)!  Solenad 2 is due to open this weekend, Republic Wakepark at the end of the year, and Xavier is eyeing June 2012 for their first school year opening.

It\’s all happening!

Nuvali street names

Everyday Life

Notice the names of the streets in Avida Settings Nuvali, patterned after US sites and cities– Bridgeport, Fremont Peak, Blueridge, Mt. Rushmore.
\"Avida

Personally I would\’ve preferred a more Pinoy context…

– Where do you live?
– Pechay St.

Haha 😛

But seriously, what other names would\’ve worked?

Pinoy veggies or herbs: Welcome to Malunggay Ave., Turn left on Pandan St.
Pinoy nature terms: Ilog St., Batis Ave., Dagat St., Araw St.  <— pwede!
Pinoy animals:  Oso St.,  Kalapati St., Lawin St., Paru-paro St.
Pinoy trees would\’ve been nice too (although I know a village in Pasig that already uses them):  Narra St., Mahogany, Tindalo, Ipil

On the upside, Avida\’s current street names do lend a breezy feel to the place–snow references maybe?  At least we can imagine snowy peaks and stay cool when we start feeling the heat of summer again. 😛
