Enjoying the Nuvali lakeside

Life in Nuvali Philippines,

One of the major come-ons of Nuvali for me has always been the man-made lake.

When I first heard about it in 2007, I immediately had a vision of our very own lakeside/ mini-waterfront promenade in the Philippines, similar to Singapore\’s Harbour Front/Vivo City.

Forward to 2012, less than 5 years hence, and the lake is still the first thing that catches my eye every time I enter Nuvali.

It now occupies 4 hectares, which is admittedly smaller than what I had hoped for (original plan set it at 8 hectares), but the view, especially when taken in with Mt. Makiling in the background, is stilling.

Even without thinking about it, I always slow down whenever I drive along this area.

It\’s not surprising that others have discovered this quieting spot as well, making weekend picnickers a regular sight around the lake.

I got to really walk around the Nuvali lake for the first time during the Venare Section J launch last Sunday, and was happy to take in the fresh air (fresh talaga! It was cold and thin, almost wispy–as opposed to being thick and heavy).

Venare Section J Launch today – a successful last hurrah

Everyday Life,

\"Venare

When we saw the tents from afar, we thought they occupied too big a space for the selling event today, but wow, we were surprised to be greeted by so many people so intent on buying in Venare!

Section J is the last section of Venare, and considered by many to be the best.

It should\’ve come as no surprise then that there was an overwhelming response to Alveo\’s call for Letters of Intent, officially announced last January 17, 2012.

We had clients who lined up as early as December, but we were also glad to have been able to help even those who submitted LOIs just before the deadline last Thursday.

The queue for bulk buyers or those who want to buy more than one lot (one expressed intent to buy 8!), reached past 26, and single buyers started getting their chance at lot selection past 1pm:

Mom and Dad tagged along as they\’ve never experienced a priority selling event before, and mom kept close guard of the map and lot availability as the day progressed.

Here\’s the aftermath, as of 3:15 pm February 5, 2012, with taken lots in pink:

There were still a number of people waiting in line after the priority selling, so I assume more lots would\’ve been taken before the day ended.

If you are interested in a lot in Venare, contact me johanna@metrorealty.ph or 0920-9624116 so I can give you a heads up on remaining inventory asap.

Video tour of Nuvali as of Jan 2012

Life in Nuvali Philippines

Here\’s a new video showing exciting Nuvali developments!

Good updated overview in 5 minutes.

Wonder why Miriam College wasn\’t included, also didn\’t notice Avida Village in the round up of residential communities.   Was nice to see perspectives of the upcoming Kukun Hotel and Monochrome events place, though.

More videos from the nuvali.ph website.

Thanks to gerard505 of Skyscrapercity-Nuvali for the heads up.

Quiet and bridges

Everyday Life

I saw a TV feature on a Chinese painter the other night. Asked about his process, he said that everyday, he keeps quiet. He sets aside time to be quiet, then he paints. And he does these alone.

It’s a solitary act, to paint and create, and I’ve returned many times to the question of whether it’s an act for me, whether I’d be happy being solitary most of the time, every single day.

Honest answer: I found myself wishing for the same quiet time that that artist had. Honest-to-goodness quiet time, with no phones, no emails to answer, no urgency to attend to, no loose ends waiting for me to resolve, no one waiting for me to respond.

My ideal everyday would be spent quietly, with time for socials yes, but generally, it is a day spent slowly, without hurry or worry. My idea of “work”, which is really just a word for the most effective way to spend our most productive hours, is being alone, sometimes doing nothing but being alone. Because ironically it’s when I’m allowed my alone time that I’m able to be a better friend, sister, daughter, aunt. It’s when I’m able to see clearly, speak with weight, and create with courage. When everydays are noisy, all I can muster, when I do get to put anything out there, is a making-do, a pwede na.

A bridge maybe.

But bridges must lead to somewhere. And for now, that somewhere is the quiet. I want to get to the quiet.

Bridges are also what will get us to that somewhere, I know this. And for all of us who make do, who want more but also cherish what’s before and around us, I say thank you and good luck. There is courage too in bridging. It pushes us forward and gives a taste, of what’s to come.

When words fail

Uncategorized

When I was 23, I met a man who swept me off my feet. He was 29 and tall, had a warm smile, soft hands, and deep curious eyes. He was an economist who one day just packed his bags, went to the mountains and disappeared. I met him on a gap moment, when he literally came out of his cave to reconnect with society. To wide-eyed me, who’s never met a hippie before, he was beautiful.

He told me these words:

You can only hold me accountable for what I say and do, when I say and do it.

At that time, it didn’t make sense to me. How can you have friends that way? How can you love that way? With no one to hold you to your word, with no word to even be given. He was big on the NOW, on what’s present. I remember him catching me once with a faraway look, and he asked me what I was thinking. I said I remembered my family back home (I was away on a solo trip abroad then), and he asked me to just look at him, be 100% with him. The way he was with me.

Maybe that’s why it was so intoxicating to be around him–I had his whole attention. For the moments that he was with me, I had all of him.

I’ve only come to understand what all that meant, what it entailed from his end.

I used to think of it as selfish. When he was present, he was wholly present, but when he was gone, he was also wholly gone. Not letting people call on him, or expect anything from him was short of saying “I live for myself.”

But I’ve also come to see the truth in it, in enjoying and loving what’s before us, when it’s before us.

For one thing, it’s given me a deeper appreciation of impermanence. Everything passes.

Whether it’s for better or for worse that I now see and understand this, I’m still not sure. But here’s what’s been hovering over me lately: Talk is cheap. Promises are easy to say out loud, ideals easily laid out and put to words.

We say a lot of things we don’t mean. Most of us plead guilty to this when we do small talk. But how often do we do this to people who are dear to us? Sometimes, it’s better to just hold our tongue and let actions do the talking. Let how we give people our most valuable gift — our time — be the judge of what we really want to say.

New year, new directions

Uncategorized

Why are beginnings so wonderful?

Yes there is the exuberance of possibility, of something new and yet to be known.

But there is also the closing of something old, a passing or a leaving behind.

When we begin, we also automatically end, and this journey of the transition, and the call to see it through, makes such events so joyful, and demanding.

And if we pay attention and commit to moving forward, we’ll know where we’re supposed to go.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Modern-Mexican house: kaya ba talaga?

My Nuvali Home

When I was just starting out with house plans and design, I was hopping between two extremes:  modern-minimalist (\”less is more\”) and warm-lived in (\”more is more\” aka Mexican).  I like clean, simple lines, but also the coziness and freeing energy of color.

For the exterior, I knew I had no choice but to follow the modern theme of Nuvali, but inside the house was a different story.

I said out loud last year that I would make modern and Mexican go together, and here I am, one month away from house completion and the question I\’m asking is: kaya ba talaga?

My brother echoed a concern last night that, admittedly, I\’m also beginning to feel: what if the house ends up looking chop suey?

Here\’s a moodboard of the facade, actual photo on the upper left.

\"My

The house will have the roof on the upper right (as per Avida DOR requirement).  Decided to go with white and gray for the walls and stoneworks, with wooden accents.  Will have the steps, grass and striped carport.  Have yet to finalize fencing for the sides, but I\’m liking the wood (or wooden finish).

Looking at it now, I\’m getting a rigid (matigas) vibe, but don\’t know if the roof will soften it enough.  Plan for the front door is to have a curved etching, shaped like an 8 (for the lemniscate).  Wild idea: what if I cut a wave across the front lawn instead of using linear steps?  Also playing around with the idea of using boulders on the lawn to soften up the facade.

INDOORS

First step inside the house will be greeted by these:

\"Tiles

We did color testing for the walls, decided on yellow (I\’ve always wanted a yellow house!):

\"My

Will do tone on tone colors (going for multiple shades of the same color in a room, to create a crisp but rich texture) for the rest of the space, an idea I picked up from doing pinboards on pinterest.  Did a quick review of boards I\’ve already collected for inspiration, and was happy to see the power of visioning at work: I didn\’t realize I already singled out yellow and green  for my wall moodboards a month ago!

For now, we\’re thinking of using the green upstairs.

Nuvali at night (one year after)

Life in Nuvali Philippines

A year ago, we took a drive around Nuvali at night, to see how lit (or not) the surroundings and roads would be.

One year hence, I\’d be lying if I said things were much brighter, but definitely you\’d feel a general buzz in the air already:

\"Around

Logo lamps were littered along Nuvali Boulevard, but past Nuvali North towards the rotonda, it was still pitch black when we passed by last December.

Further along, we saw Christmas lights at the Avida Settings main entrance.

Inside Avida Settings Nuvali was an altogether different story, with lampposts already shining brightly:

New access from Silangan exit?

Life in Nuvali Philippines,

We drove down to the tip of Nuvali South earlier this week and noticed this newly constructed guardhouse at the end of the road, right by Avida Village Nuvali:

No announcements on this yet, but we\’re assuming it will lead to the Silangan exit.

Elaro update – gently rolling lots in Nuvali

Everyday Life,

\"Elaro

Late last December, I got to visit the newly opened Elaro sales tent on-site (pictured above), which sits on an elevated lot facing the Amenity Core or main park.

Elaro was launched in early August 2011, and three months after, by  mid-November, we were already sifting through lots for sale in Tranche #3.

What makes Elaro extra beautiful in my book?  I already wrote about its rolling terrain and abundant trees, but I think it worthwhile to point out again that Elaro is located in a beautiful part of Nuvali Central that\’s bounded by a bird and wildlife sanctuary.   No fail, whenever I visit the site, I see birds in interesting shapes and sizes, but most heart-tugging of all is the variety of birdcalls.

The next time you\’re in the area, roll down your windows and just take in the symphony of birdsong — it will really transport you to another place. 🙂
